No huge update today, but I wanted to address a quasi-loose end from much earlier in the project
In a previous post, I had expressed the intent to run "3D Pinball - Space Cadet" on Stern Pinball's "S.A.M." platform. This was done for a number of reasons, including DMD support, and easier implementation of the Magnet Processing Board (found on Stern Pinball's initial "Metallica" line of machines) for the "Gravity Well" function of the game.
As the project grew, and the technical needs of the game became more clear; I knew that any platform used by most manufacturers (Bally/Williams, Stern Pinball, Gottlieb, etc.) would be woefully incapable of handling all the components required. To address this, I have made the decision to use Multimorphic's P3-ROC platform.
This change in platform will allow for more flexibility in the amount of I/O available. As the platform is modular in nature, if more switch inputs, coil drivers, etc. are needed, it can be addressed by adding an additional board to the system. With regards to DMD support, that is being shelved in favor of an LCD panel displaying graphics with the size and appearance of a DMD (just in shades of purple); much like the popular pinball upgrade, the ColorDMD.
Beyond these two changes, the parts/assemblies for the playfield will continue to use standard pinball machine components.
That is all for this brief update. As a reminder; you can catch design streams regularly at https://www.twitch.tv/TerpohGaming
Until next time, this is Mission Control (TerpohGaming) signing off!
